JoAnn McVicker makes this small Florida cottage (measuring 1125 sq ft.) feel roomy and beautiful with these interior design tricks.
How to Make Small Rooms Look Larger:
-Create visual space with a skinny mirrored or reflective coffee table.
-Use light and neutral colors for walls and most furniture.
-Use low-profile furniture that makes the room feel larger.
-Choose low-profile table lamps and ceiling lamps.
-Use vertical lines to draw the eye up, this can make ceilings seem higher.
-Opt for a minimalist streamline look.
The living and dining room flow as one. The living room is defined by a rug and the dining room is kept clean and open. The mirrored top surfboard shaped Coffee Table is the perfect skinny table for the space and it also reflects light. The sofa and chairs are all Slipcovered in linen and are washable.
The beautiful Ocean Art painting on the wall is shared by the dining and living room. The furniture here is open and airy to keep as much light coming through as possible. And an open Chandelier is chosen for even more visual space.
The chandelier is decorated with an oyster shell garland that has sparkling crystals.
The Kitchen is light, bright and simple but roomy. It has a glass subway Tile Backsplash for a little sparkle and the slightly richer color and detail in the granite countertop holds it all together.
An open visual space is created in the small master bedroom with a Poster Bed and marble and metal side tables. Drapes are a white lined linen.
The dresser is simple and sits on an iron base. The large coral Mirror keeps to the coastal feel and adds spaciousness and fun to function.
The guest bedroom is very small but has lots of windows. The side tables are a shiny Silver metal, again this brings sparkle and even more light to the space. Lamps are glass, blue and gray and feel liquid.
A nice detail. The beautiful linen drapes have Rope Tie Backs.
The lower part of this antique Cabinet is used as the dressers while the top showcases a coral collection. The Inside of the Cabinet is Painted in a deep blue which makes the white coral really stand out.
