Hang Mirrors and Art over Windows

To hang mirrors and art over windows is not something I would have thought of, but if there is no wall space, you have no choice. To keep the traditional over the sink setup in This Bathroom, an elegant Decorative Shell Art Mirror was chosen and it looks beautiful.


A small piece of art hangs over the window in this bedroom seen at Southern Living.


And a really bold example of how to hang art over windows comes from designer Meg Braff. Not enough wall space because of windows and furnishings, or just for the effect of it? What do you think about this design solution?

Paint a Dresser Blue -7 Makeovers with a Beachy Vibe

Paint a dresser blue..., to reflect the sea! Here are 7 dresser makeovers with a beachy vibe, beginning with Holly's Cabana Beach Stripe Dresser. Holly who is a professional furniture flipper says that she distressed just the blue paint so that it was slightly faded in spots and the white shows through in others. After the makeover, I see our continents floating in oceans and seas! To paint the world map Mrs Limestone of Brooklyn Limestone used the help of an overhead projector.

Kids Party with Mermaid Cake

If you're a regular here on Completely Coastal, you know that I love cakes, cupcakes, and pastry (mostly for the viewing) because to me they're sweet art -just look at this gorgeous mermaid cake! It's the star of a Mystical Mermaid Kids Party at Catherina's Creative Corner -strawberry with buttercream frosting! The topper is a Lladro knockoff mermaid figurine.

Make a Beach Collage with Shells, Sand and more

Have you been collecting lots of shells this summer? You could make a beautiful beach collage with shells, sand and anything else you see fit. Take the inspiration from Australian based artist Natasha Burns who created this beautiful framed piece for her parents beach house with hand collected sea treasures.


Natasha used a variety of shells, including broken ones, and also incorporated bits of a broken sea urchin, hollowed out crab skeletons as well as beads and faux pearls. Visit her blog to view more close up pictures of her beach collage!

Vintage Nautical Flea Market Finds

I'm loving the nautical vintage flea market finds from Seastyle! Iryna lives in South Florida, an area with quite a number of great marine flea markets to go to. Why didn't I visit one while staying in Miami Beach?! Well, let's enjoy these great nautical vintage finds. Gorgeous letters made from old Indonesian ships. These must melt your heart if you're a coastal shabby chic lover! And there are more to choose from.


Vintage nautical lobster buoys -authentic and chic!

A gorgeous nautical ship light found at a shipwrecking yard, where retired ships and their tools are collected. The light is cleaned and polished.


And here's an authentic vintage rum jug in rope netting that was used as a water jug on board or rum flask. Ballard sold something very similar at one point and I have seen people creating netting around bottles and vases inspired by these jugs -in fact I have a post in draft with tutorials! Wall Sconce Shelves to Display Collections

I've had This Picture of wall sconce shelves in my files for quite some time. It's a striking way to display collections -each wall sconce showcasing a single Coral.


The Nester too loved the idea and used it in her bedroom, creating Inexpensive Wall Art. She says that you can find these wall sconces for just a few dollars each in thrift stores. Have you seen them? Unlike the first wall sconce shelves, these are all different, but painted the same color they make a cohesive looking display.


You can also arrange a grouping of sea treasures! See Collections Displayed at Summerland Cottage Studio.


Then I found two examples of wall sconce shelves in Bathrooms. More groupings on the left, and lovely vintage shelves on the right. Unfortunately I lost the source for these.


And lastly, a seahorse wall sconce shelf spotted at The Charm of Home, also used to display a small collection. So, do you like wall sconce shelves?
