First off, a close look at one of my authentic glass floats from Glass Float Junkie (also see Feature Post). The photo was inspired by Kelly of Design Ties who purchased a few of Kamichia's floats herself...

... and wrote this fabulous post Treasures of the Sea, showing her own collection, plus some rare European purple floats and more decorating ideas. You wouldn't want to miss it!
Then, if you love floats, you want to be able to tell if they are authentic or fake, right? Well, Glass Float Junkie laid it out for us in her Glass Float 101!

Hint: impeccable floats in bright colors are not authentic. They are contemporary versions that honor the originals, but have never experienced the currents of the sea. However, they are still vintage and sought after since they were made by the same companies who manufactured the authentic floats, but to be sold in gift shops, Kamichia says in Glass Float 101 -and don't they look irresistible! These are Allison's Glass Fishing Floats displayed in a precious wire basket that belonged to her great grandfather.

Thanks for the mention, Maya :-) I love my glass floats, and I can't wait to add to my collection :-)
Although the non-working floats come in beautiful colours, I prefer the working floats -- I'm so amazed that they were able to survive years in the ocean before they landed on beaches here in North America :-)
I like buying from Kamichia, because I know she found the floats that she sells on the beach in Alaska. So I don't have to wonder whether or not they're authentic.
Have a great weekend :-)

How beautiful. I've favorited Kamichia's Etsy store. Thank you for the inspiration.
Cool! I had no idea. Thanks for teaching me something today :)
Thanks Carole!! I love Kamichia's store!
When I was a kid I spent three summers fishing in SE Alaska on my dad's salmon troller. Finding glass floats was a highlight for many fishermen, and while most were larger, I cherish my tiny one I found all by myself on a remote rocky beach. :-) Great topic!
This is good to know! I have them on my wish list but I would like to buy from Glass Float junkie when I do! They are just beautiful!
Great photo. I love the treasures of the sea post. Thank you for sharing this information. I love my glass floats - thanks to you for teaching me about them!!!
I love glass floats and I don't have a single one...yet. They are on the wish list:)
I just adore the close up shot of the bubbles inside the glass float. Now I'm really craving them! ~Lili
Maya, what a beautiful collection of glass floats!
I love my glass floats! I'm hoping that next time we visit the Oregon coast, we will find more washed up on the beach!!
Have a great weekend. :)
Beth.
I actually prefer the fake ones because of the brighter colours. They look like huge beautiful marbles altogether like that!
I'm glad you used my photo! I love my colorful glass floats no matter their origin. Our larger ones are just as pretty with their air bubbles.

Hey Maya...I just ran across this! I have been out of state. I went to my 20 year class reunion! I'm behind on checking out everyone's new blog posts! I need to do a new one too.
Thanks for sharing my post about real floats versus fake floats. I just got some really great floats yesterday & they are VERY old. I'm sorting through them & will be listing more in my shop.

Nice to know! I adore floats, both the authentic and the "fake" ones =)
