Suzy @ Georgia Peachez received this vintage mantel as a gift from a friend and turned it into a display shelf, which in her own words was crying out for some embellishment.

And since she's got bowls full of shells all over the house she transformed it into a piece of shell art for the porch. "I like to start my seashell mosaic projects with a central cluster of large shells and work out from there," she said.

And if you wonder what it takes to accomplish something like this, here's a hint from the artist herself: "It takes me hours to work out the placement of all these shells. Even when I do a small mirror, I go back and forth with the placement before finally committing and setting the shells down with the glue."

It was a five hour project, which to me doesn't sound bad at all..., and I love it!

Thanks for the feature! I love my mantel so much. It is on the porch and I pass by it every day and I have to say it is pretty awesome! I've still got lots of shells left over, hmmmmm, now where is that glue gun? xo, suzy

Fabulous display, am with you on the tinkering on placement sometimes it feels like it takes forever to decide but that is half the fun.
Beautiful! I love that cute little green birdhouse too!
What a creative idea! I love that she's using a mantel as a shelf.

I'd be lucky to find a mantel like that in 5 months. It's worth all 5 hours of shell work to make it one of a kind.
wonderful post - absolutely love the mantel - and love your blog - beautiful, thought-provoking and most of all, beautifully creative!
