Creating a Seashell Mosaic -or the second Life of a Vintage Mantel

Seashell Crafts
Suzy @ Georgia Peachez received this vintage mantel as a gift from a friend and turned it into a display shelf, which in her own words was crying out for some embellishment.

Seashell Mosaic
And since she's got bowls full of shells all over the house she transformed it into a piece of shell art for the porch. "I like to start my seashell mosaic projects with a central cluster of large shells and work out from there," she said.

Seashell Shelf
And if you wonder what it takes to accomplish something like this, here's a hint from the artist herself: "It takes me hours to work out the placement of all these shells. Even when I do a small mirror, I go back and forth with the placement before finally committing and setting the shells down with the glue."

Seashell Mantle
It was a five hour project, which to me doesn't sound bad at all..., and I love it!

Fabulous display, am with you on the tinkering on placement sometimes it feels like it takes forever to decide but that is half the fun.

I'd be lucky to find a mantel like that in 5 months. It's worth all 5 hours of shell work to make it one of a kind.

Suzy did a beautiful job on her mantel!

One of these days I'm going to have to post some pics of my shell crafts. Nothing as beautiful as this, but still pretty.

I love all the ideas from yesterday also and that you included some from my favorite blogs.
