DIY Network Coastal Beach Retreat Remodel in NC

DIY Network's coastal beach retreat 2013 is a masterful remodel of an old cedar shake cottage, with a few awesome DIY projects.

The home sits in a remote spot by the water on North Carolina's Crystal Coast.

The great design starts right by the curb with a fabulous copper mailbox propped atop maritime pilings, selected by online voters.

A spa-style color palette was chosen for the living room and quality furnishings that add a grounded feel to the space.

display wood dining table
One of my favorite DIY projects has to be this rustic chic dining table that features a glass-capped tabletop filled with collected sand, sea glass and seashells.

how to build display wood table
The Display Table is built with reclaimed wood, and then they did something very clever. They ran LEDs around the interior perimeter of the table. This gives the table a modern edge, but also a dimensional aspect, not to mention the beach right there to see and enjoy at night.

The king-sized bed is the focal point in the master bedroom. It is custom-built from old and new lumber, has pullout under-bed storage, and a custom-made Shutter Headboard.

The art above the headboard is another favorite. A Driftwood piece is mounted on a piece of wood that was given a vintage look.

fillable glass lamps
Fillable Glass Table Lamps flank the bed. The lamps are filled with sand, shells and burlap ribbon.

oar headboard
In the guest bedroom they used an eye-catching Oar Headboard that incorporates both new and vintage paddles. The new paddles were stain treated to appear weathered. For all the details and more pictures on this coastal beach home remodel, including the home's history, head over to the DIY Network.
