Mantel Decor Beach Style for Summer Time

Summer is near and more people think of the beach. This can manifest in mantel decor beach style -just check out the Summer Mantel Party at The Lettered Cottage! I spend hours there last weekend floating blissfully in a sea of coastal and beach style mantels, rounding them up here for you and me. Starting point for the Mantel Decor at Finding Home was an old barn door. If you love the blue jars but only have white ones handy, go to Painting Glass Jars.

Wine Glasses as Centerpieces with Sand, Candles & Sea Treasures

I'm sure you have seen wine glasses as centerpieces. I find them quite elegant and so easy to pull off, especially since I already have more than a dozen wine glasses in my cupboard. You can use Wine Glasses as Candleholders and anchor votive candles in a bed of sand or small beach pebbles.


Lovely etched wine glasses are used here.


With the bottom of the wine glasses filled with sand, you can also prop starfish or other collected sea treasures. Seen at BHG.

Shadow Boxes for Beach Rocks and Shells

I love how Tracy of Trinkets and Treasures filled up her shadow boxes chuck full with Beach Rocks and Shells. For the rocks, she painted and distressed an existing shadow box to make it look antique. The story: "I have a wonderful friend that has a home in Long Island, New York. I mentioned that I liked the rocks from the movie Something’s Gotta Give where Diane Keaton collects the white rocks off the beach, but never the black ones. I loved the look of the rocks so she sent me some."


Then to display her collection of shells found in Florida, Tracy picked a shadow box from Hobby Lobby. And there's a shark’s tooth in there too! These shadow boxes are on the heavy side, I wouldn't even try to hang them on the wall –they look great free standing and on a frame holder.

Fabrics to Sea -Lobster Prints to Love!

I've always loved this Lobster Print Fabric Ottoman, but then the source I had posted discontinued the lobster print. I received emails from readers looking for the fabric, I searched, but didn't find. Then last week, I hit the lobster print jackpot with On Board Fabrics.


Not only do they have the lobster print fabric with red lobsters on white, they have white lobsters on red...

DIY Capiz Shell Chandeliers -Cant believe they're faux!

This is West Elm’s dreamy Capiz Shell Chandelier. It had been on Susan’s wish list for a long time, but it was out of her price range. Then a tutorial popped up in the blogsphere...


... a DIY Faux Capiz Shell Chandelier posted on Design Sponge. So Susan and some of her friends got together to make the faux chandelier. A zillion wax paper circles needed to be cut out!


You can find the full tutorial on Susan’s blog Freshly Picked here: How to Make a Capiz Chandelier. She started with a thrifted lamp shade, added an extra row of wire and sewed the wax paper circles together on the machine.


Then, her husband installed hooks to the ceiling and hung the capiz chandelier.


Here it is with the light on. Total cost $9.


And this is Amy's faux capiz shell chandelier, one of Susan's friends, and she says this, "I can’t even get over how fancy it looks. This is one craft that does not look homemade." I agree!

It looks like a lot of work, but the results are pretty stunning, don't you think!

Then I just stumbled upon yet another version of the wax paper capiz chandelier at B.E. Interiors, following the same directions, but with a few things done differently -using a wire basket and hot gluing the circles on fishing lines.
