Super Easy DIY Headboard Ideas

One of the easiest DIY headboard ideas I've come across are shutters. You simply lean them against the wall. No measuring, no drilling holes -things I'm always trying to avoid! And they surely go with the coastal theme.

On a side note: Check out above shell pillows in this setting.


Old shutters are charming as is, chipped and faded. Seen at Jane Coslick's.


Or for a modern clean look, which is very appropriate for a Condo in South Beach FL, use white vinyl shutters. Nice!


This is one of the DIY headboard ideas that requires some work. Each panel is a painted hollow closet door..., which I remember from our first ranch style home. The panels are attached to each other with hinges or brackets on the back, and to the wall with L-brackets placed on top of the panels. I love this headboard idea as well, a shelving unit. Easy and very functional too -more space to showcase your beach finds!


And the easiest headboard ideas of all times -large pillows! I know, you can't really call this a headboard, but it's a great and effortless alternative.

Felt Crafts -How to make Sand Dollars and Starfish

Feel like doing some felt crafts? You might after seeing these adorable felt sand dollars and starfish.

Jessica of Happy Together made a hole bunch of Felt Sand Dollars for her kids, using the Clip Art below in three different sizes.

She simply traced the templates on felt, cut them out (including the holes), then embroidered, and made "sandwiches" with a tiny bit of stuffing. You can read all about it in detail on Jessica's blog.



Then...


... tucked away in a small mountain town in British Columbia (Canada), Natalie's felt craft was inspired by a starfish photograph. Her forte is making small dolls, so lucky us she stitched up these happy and super cute Felt Starfish and posted a tutorial with free pattern (here reduced in size). You can make these in all the colors you want..., even embellish them with whatever you can think of. I love them simple as they are.

Chic Bedrooms -15 Nautical Design Ideas

Chic bedrooms that show 15 nautical design ideas, with each bedroom featuring one nautical item or aspect of Life at Sea. From a 1932 depiction of the French Luxury Liner SS Normandie (seen here)... to dangerously real looking anchors!


Framed Signal Flags (find them on Ebay + Home at Sea) are the perfect nautical design idea if you want to execute the nautical theme in Bold Colors such as Red.


A chic bedroom Martha Stewart style. I think Displaying Model Yachts is one of the most popular nautical design ideas people use (click on link to see mine). And check out the Model Yachts at Caron's Beach House.


And for the space at the foot of your bed, think Antique Sailor's Chest. I love this idea, but it's a pricey solution, I'd probably go for a replica.


Maps and Charts are among my favorite nautical design ideas. You can apply them like Wallpaper as shown in this Bedroom, frame them (find Framed Charts at Ocean Offerings), or Decoupage them on Furniture.


Decorating Nautical with Wooden Oars often results in a more rustic casual ambiance, this room however, even with the added Boat Hanging from the Ceiling, is quite elegant and definitely grown up.


Want to pretend that you're sleeping on a yacht, then a Nautical Porthole is a must, here as a mirror.


Rebecca mounted a white painted Ship Wheel that she found in a local thrift store. And true, it does make you wonder about all the voyages and the story behind it.


A very chic bedroom with a very bold and unique nautical design. Large scale white Lighthouse Posts were added to the built in headboard. At first glance I didn't even notice! For another impressive lighthouse design idea, check out The Wild Nautical World of Diamond Baratta.


If you have a fireplace in your bedroom, make it your focal point not only with an art piece but with an exceptional surround. 18th-century blue-and-white Dutch delft tiles with a ship design were used in this Master Bedroom. A Fishing Net on a wall can look tacky, but I'm really liking this design, posted by Melinda of Ocean Offerings on her blog here.


And every ship needs a Life Preserver Ring. Design by Sarah Richardson.


Or simply place Pillows with a Nautical Design as seen at the Lennoxx. And you might have guessed..., this chic bedroom is located on a yacht. You can find a variety of Anchor Pillows at Outer Banks Trading Group.


And here they are..., dangerously real looking Anchors. I'd say Beware!


And lastly, the nautical theme styled in a very feminine way that includes a collection of Sailors Valentines in a Sea Captains House by Phoebe Howard.

And to sum it all up, I think, a clean approach based on a single nautical design idea might just be the secret to creating chic bedrooms in the first place!
