How to Gild Seashells and Make Them Metallic Beauties

I don't know about you, but I never gilded anything. So this project is exciting. Learn how to gild seashells and turn them into metallic beauties!

Atta Girl Says has a tutorial posted How to Gild Seashells, using the method of liquid guilding, as well as gold leafing.

Sure, you can get a metallic look by simply spray painting seashells as seen with silver here, here, and here, but to gild seashells just sounds so classy. And it will give you a beautiful texture that paint simply cannot achieve.

For everyone not familiar with the process, here is the official definition of Gilding from Wikipedia: Gilding covers a number of decorative techniques for applying fine gold leaf or powder to solid surfaces such as wood, stone, or metal to give a thin coating of gold.

While liquid guilding is quick and easy to use, and without mess (you simply brush it on), gold leafing creates a richer look. There are Gold Leafing Starter Kits that come with everything you'll need, including sealer! For the tutorials, head over to Atta Girl Says.

I haven't gilded either. In fact, I didn't know it was a verb! But I can see that it puts a way better finish on shells than spray paint, which I have done to create Christmas ornaments. I must try this. Thanks for the encouragement.
