The house belongs to Beth's in-laws and is set on Indian Pass Beach in Florida near Apalachicola, an adorable town on the Gulf that I have been to. How is it pronounced again? I keep forgetting.

Beth blogs at Zesty Nest and made this gorgeous oyster shell mirror for one of the bedrooms with the help of the tutorial found via Making the Oyster Shell Mirror from Wisteria. She even wrote A Tribute to Completely Coastal -thank you so much!

Beth also created the Nautical Flag Pillows and the Sea Creature Pillows. She chose the images from vintage printable (see: Free Printable Art Pictures of Sea Animals), printed them on iron-on transfer paper, then ironed them onto the pillow covers, made from painter's drop cloth. Her pillows have a very lovely back side too -click links to check it out!

And a seascape of the Apalachicola River hangs over the fireplace mantel.
Painted by Beth!

Then, this remote artful home also showcases the works of the owner, Sandi. You see her wonderful paintings throughout the home. Click here to see them all.

Now to the eco friendly part.

Check out the kitchen island below then look at the fireplace again. Both are made with mortar and shells gathered on Indian Pass!

The original owners went to great lengths to maintain the integrity of the land - bringing in beams with cranes so they wouldn't have to cut down many trees.
And all the cabinetry and wood supports including the living room mantel are made by Good Mill Work with local deadhead cypress. Do you know what this means? It's so fascinating...

... Beth explained to me, they dive into the Apalachicola River and pull up cypress trunks that fell in over 150 years ago when loggers where moving them down the river. It's almost pitch black down there, so the divers are specially trained to feel for the logs...and be very still if, say, an alligator swims across their fingers!
Beth says, "We've been visiting this area of Florida for about 10 years now, and it's such a wonderful, quiet place..., the Shopping is fun and the food is out of this world." She recommends The Owl Cafe and Papa Joe's in Apalachicola!
I hope you enjoyed the tour of this eco friendy artful home! For more pictures go to Our Sanctuary by the Sea.

I couldn't write out how to pronounce Apalachicola, but you can hear it for yourself here:
