Al Fresco Tablescapes

Soon Al Fresco dining will be a reality for me here in Southern New England..., and for the time being I'm finding delight in these picks...

... a casual Al Fresco tablescape setting at the Pink Sands Beach Resort..., sturdy glassware, my favorite kind, and the place mats, the same ones that I have..., I think I'm destined to vacation there...

... a lantern as a center piece completes the romantic ambiance of this lovely place in Maine (as always click images to go to source)...

... napkins that pick up the colors of surrounding accessories are chosen in this Tropical paradise...

... here the mood is set with a table runner..., and red being one of the colors in Nautical Signal Flags, how appropriate for this Nantucket home, situated on an island with such a rich seafaring history...

... and you can never go wrong with the simplicity of nature itself, decorating with Starfish or Seashells creates a relaxed environment, no matter where you set your outdoor table. Enjoy your next outdoor meal!

Georgia O' Keeffe's Seashell Paintings

I've always loved Georgia O'Keeffe's Flowers..., and only recently I discovered these gorgeous seashell paintings of hers...
... like the flowers, O’Keeffe (1887 – 1986), who was the first woman to have her own exhibition at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, painted them as large close-ups in slight abstraction...

... so you cannot ignore their beauty -her own words as to why she paints them huge.
(All three seashell paintings are available as prints at art.com, just click images).

Nights in Rodanthe

Rodanthe NC filming location
Nights in Rodanthe (2008), a melodramatic romance filmed on the Outer Banks of North Carolina in the town of Rodanthe on Hatteras Island.

movie Nights in Rodanthe
The movie is an adaption from a novel by Nicholas Sparks.

Richard Gere in Nights in Rodanthe on the beach
And no matter how cliche or predictable the story, it's filmed by the sea and has Diane Lane and Richard Gere in it, good enough for me.

Diane Lane in Nights in Rodanthe on the beach
From all I know, Nights in Rodanthe is a movie about a man and a woman who fall in love.

If you have seen it, please tell! Because I'll be waiting til it's shown on HBO.

Richard Gere's Hampton Home

Richard Gere's renovated farmhouse in the Hamptons (NY) came up for sale...

... almost ocean front for 8.8 Million..., for that price I would want my own private beach though...

... but then, as we all know, movie super stars have multiple homes and he and his wife probably have a beach house somewhere.

This home boasts 10.5 bathrooms, oddly, not one picture! I would have loved to see the half bath...

... but what I do see I like...

... it's casual, simple...

... just what you would expect from a farmhouse.

House between Rocks

castel meur in Brittany France
The house between rocks, or Castel Meur, sits amidst a fabulous landscape of rock formations.

map Brittany France
Location, the township of Plougrescant in Brittany, France.

house between rocks
Built in 1861 the house, being as cute and amazing as it is, was eventually discovered and became famous when photos of it were sold as postcards around the world.

unique house between rocks
This attracted busloads of tourists with cameras! And they behaved badly! It's hard to believe but they began to climb up on the house to be photographed which caused damage to the property. The owner then had to forbid any commercial representation of Castel Meur, and installed an electric fence -just kidding. May the house between rocks rest in peace.

Decorating Nautical with Signal Flag Designs

nautical signal flags
Available @ Art.com

Decorating Nautical with Signal Flag Designs is a colorful affair...

... it includes deep blues, rich reds and bright yellows, plus black and white.

The nautical signal flags system has been used to communicate out at sea internationally since 1857...

... when it was published by the British Board of Trade as a means of maritime communications.

The flags represent the letters of the alphabet...

...and also have unique and specific meanings...

...and while times have changed and electronic communication has replaced the need for signal flags...

... they are now used as Nautical Decorations to dress a ship for holidays or special occasions.
