The French Lieutenant's Woman

The French Lieutenant's Woman (1981), an adaption of John Fowles romantic novel, filmed in the elegant Dorset town of Lyme Regis, England...

... and there is a scene in which fabulous Meryl Streep walks along the Cobb, the town's harbour wall...

... what can I say, I love romantic dramas and Meryl Streep movies...

... and the coastal town of Lyme Regis is a visual treat. Have you seen it?

What's your Architectural Home Style?

I love a good quiz, so I took this Architectural Home Style Quiz that I stumbled upon (just before my trip) via It's the little Things that make a House a Home..., and out of the 18 most common architectural styles, mine supposedly is the Spanish Colonial Revival....

... built in the early 20th century these homes incorporate elements of Mediterranean architecture, which I love...

... arched doorways and windows, and the large stucco fireplace, I adore...

... and the style is prevalent in the toasty climates of Florida, California and the Southwest, and I do see a warmer climate in my future, so not bad. But which home style did I pick?

I chose the contemporary style home. It retains modernism's devotion to connecting the indoors and outdoors and to achieving a feeling of spaciousness, which I've always felt attracted to -this coming from someone who lives in an old Dutch Colonial home!

... and I'm happy to be back and want to thank you all for the wonderful comments you left..., a big hug goes out to you!

And if you too take this quiz and write a post about it, please email me your link. I'd love to add it here.

Nautical Decor Inspiration -Loving Life at Sea!

nautical entryway with staircase
Unlike Coastal and Beach Decor, Nautical Decor is all about life at sea, making items that are used on ships part of the decor, like in this Entryway where you see brass lighting fixtures, Nautical Cleats, Ropes, and porthole inspired mirrors.

nautical decor with boat
To add real drama to your nautical decor scheme, you could always bring a boat inside, seen here. If this is too extreme for you, you could turn a boat into a Glass Coffee Table or Bring a Boat to your Backyard!

I love creative recycling!

nautical kitchen
But it can be subtle like in this Cottage Kitchen. Nautical decor items include a brass lantern and Nantucket Baskets on a shelf, and a clever porthole window in the door.

Spy on your neighbors with a nice brass telescope. I am just kidding. They are designed to gaze out to sea!

The Story of a Delaware Beach House

Can you imagine..., you build yourself a house and when it's done you don't want it anymore?

That's the story of this Delaware beach house in the resort town of Rehoboth...

... built in 2004, the 1,800-square-foot house was going to be a second home for the owners, a carriage house with plans for a four story main house...

... but then the carriage house stood empty most of the time, "It's just more house than we need," said the owners..., so the main house was never built (except for the pilings)...

... then last November the owners decided to sell and put the beach house on the market for $2.25 million..., and just a few days ago the price was lowered to $1,995,000...

... may this beautiful home on 4.5 acres soon be occupied and loved..., it won my heart with its driveway and 33 Endless View address alone.
