An Eco Friendly Artful Home on Indian Pass Beach FL

Shop Coastal Decor

I'm having the privilege to show you this eco friendly and artful home. It has a lot of heart and soul in it. From the people who decorated it to the men who built it.

artful home in Florida
The house belongs to Beth's in-laws and is set on Indian Pass Beach in Florida near Apalachicola, an adorable town on the Gulf that I have visited.

oyster shell mirror
Beth blogs at Zesty Nest and made this gorgeous oyster shell mirror for one of the bedrooms with the help of the tutorial found here. She even wrote A Tribute to Completely Coastal!

handmade pillows
Beth also created the Nautical Flag Pillows and the Sea Creature Pillows. She chose the images from Vintage Printable, printed them on iron-on transfer paper, then ironed them onto the pillow covers, made from painter's drop cloth. Her pillows have a very lovely back side too.

artful home decor
A seascape of the Apalachicola River hangs over the fireplace mantel. Painted by Beth!

art in the bathroom
Then, this remote artful home also showcases the works of the owner, Sandi. You see her wonderful paintings throughout the home. Click here to see them all.

fish wall plates
Now to the eco friendly part.

globe collection
Check out the kitchen island below then look at the fireplace again. Both are made with mortar and shells gathered on Indian Pass!

The original owners went to great lengths to maintain the integrity of the land - bringing in beams with cranes so they wouldn't have to cut down many trees. And all the cabinetry and wood supports including the living room mantel are made by Good Mill Work with local deadhead cypress.

eco friendly home built with deadhead cypress
Beth explains: They dive into the Apalachicola River and pull up cypress trunks that fell in over 150 years ago when loggers where moving them down the river. It's almost pitch black down there, so the divers are specially trained to feel for the logs, and be very still if, say, an alligator swims across their fingers! What a wonderful home! I looked at the photos on her blog also and I love the windows near the ceiling meant to be open in Spring and Fall, that is so PERFECT for our Florida weather. AND, you know I just adore that kitchen island made with shells.

I couldn't write out how to pronounce Apalachicola, but you can hear it for yourself here:,_florida/

(Very cool site with audio pronunciations of almost a million words in 268 languages. Gotta LOVE the internet, lol.

Oh I love that kitchen island. I've never seen that done before, although I have seen it used for sidewalks and I love the look. That is a wonderful place!
