Did you know that anybody can build a lighthouse and get it recognized by the coastguard? If the light is of any value that is. The Rockwell lighthouse home in Sitka, Alaska, is such a place!
Built on a private island the lighthouse home was listed for sale in 2008 here
and recently appeared on HGTV's Extreme Homes.
The lighthouse is also a favorite object for photographers.
