Nautical Cakes for my Birthday

I don't usually post about birthdays, nor any kind of anniversaries, but I'm turning 50 today, March 2nd, and as it begins to sink in that I've been on this planet for half a century, I thought I throw a little online party with nautical cakes.

Only fitting for a pisces like me! And it so happens that Susan of T Party made this fabulous Fondant Birthday Cake for her husband when he turned 50.


A labor of love, attaching hundreds of tiny circles for fish scales!


Jessica of Happy Together made this hilarious Crab Cake for her dad's birthday. Amazing colors!


Then, a Flip Flop Cake made by Natalie for a friend's mom who celebrated her 60th. It's a white sponge cake with lemon butter cream icing, white chocolate shells and fondant decorations.


And Cindy's elegant Giant Cupcake! Cindy had quite a few requests asking her to share how she made the fondant shells, see Fondant Shells Step by Step. They're easy to make, but there's a catch. They don't taste that great. Not good.


But I'm sure the white chocolate shells on this happy Key Lime Cake were delicious!

Now..., the question is: Am I having a nautical cake for my birthday? Nope.


My husband got me red roses! A chocolate cake with ganache filling and vanilla butter cream frosting. It was awesome!


Yes WAS. This cake is long gone. We started my big five O celebration last weekend.


Luckily, a second cake arrived yesterday! And the party will resume this evening.
