Before and After: A Nautical Furniture Piece

A cupboard found in the gutter is transformed into a fabulous nautical furniture piece!

This is how Kristine of The Painted Hive found the cupboard.

It's now a stunning nautical furniture piece, topped with a vintage map of the Mediterranean Sea.

And handles are made with nautical decals.

Thanks to Kristine, if I ever find something like this in the gutter, I will see the potential for a fantastic nautical furniture piece for sure!

Here's the how to in a nutshell:
First, of course, it's painting, distressing and sealing the piece, then applying the map and nautical decals. For the map Kristine used a gift wrap paper that she found at a local paper specialty store. The same technique applies for both, the map and decals. You print them on normal paper, and once cut to size, give them a few light coats of clear matte spray, then glue/decoupage them into place, finishing with a few coats of protective satin sealer using a paint brush -that's it!

This is stunning and what a great idea to put a map on the top! I would've painted it a beachy color though to match my stuff. Absolutely lovely.
