We couldn't be happier with our kitchen remodel!

The messy process is behind us (we removed a load bearing wall and floor tiles), and the space turned out exactly how I had envisioned it.

The black stove top blends in with the granite, and IKEA happened to have the perfect kitchen island for the space. All the way to the left, you might recognize my Seashell Door.

To finish off the kitchen cabinets and create a transition to the sitting area, we installed a few shelves, and I put some coastal cups and a dish on display.

The view toward the dining and living room. The door to the left leads into a small powder room that we added to the space since there was no bathroom downstairs.
We hang out in the kitchen a lot now, enjoying the new open space which also offers a view of the ocean inlet.

Beautiful! I love how the dishwasher and stove front blend in with the cabinets and the black stove top blend with the granite. Bet you'll have a great time cooking in that kitchen!

xoxo Laura
Oh it's totally fabulous! Tell us more though. Like what color white are those kitchen cabinets painted (I'm on a search for great whites) and what is your kitchen counter? The island couldn't be any more perfect ... like it was made for the space.
Your kitchen remodel looks wonderful! Removing the wall was a great idea. Great job!
Whoa! Impressive
Wow! What a difference! It's beautiful! So bright and fresh. Great job!
awesome transformation! Love the ikea island!!
Maya, your kitchen looks Gorgeous! You are so brave to have removed a load bearing wall. Our roof is a truss roof so none of the walls we removed were load bearing, thank goodness! And what a difference it made opening up your kitchen!
I love the white cabinetry and the black counters...that's my favorite combo as you know! And I love your Ikea island, it's perfect! Thanks for sharing your pictures with us!
Kat :)
Absolutely beautiful!!
Congratulations! It's finally done! AND it turned out beautifully, so open and spacious. Your shell door looks wonderful and that island from Ikea? Perfect! I'm going to have to keep that in mind when I move. I have no idea what my kitchen will need, but I do so love Ikea.
Great job, enjoy!
I just love dropping in and seeing my button on top, I feel so special. Thanks again!

Hi Love your kitchen especially the island from Ikea I went to their website and I could not find it. Did you buy it recently or a while back thanks in advance and great job
Hi Maya
Well your remodel truly opens the space up!! very australian thing to have open plan kitchen.. in fact i find it claustrophobic not to..
it looks fantastic.... as do you ., you skinny minny!!! The IKEA island is terrific also... they do have some great stuff if you are selective about what you choose!!,, i have far too much IKEA stuff as I go there with the intention of buying 1 thing and come home with a trolley full.. The stools are quite fab also.
Enjoy your new kitchen.. it looks wonderful!! xx Julie
Great space!! When I saw the first photo, I thought, "oh my." But the After looks effortless, which I know it wasn't (smile). Love seeing what you did...thanks for sharing, -s
Wow...big project but worth it. Everything looks great.
Sue
Frances, we bought the island last November, so not too long ago!
Hi I eventually found it. Ikea should use your picture because the one on the internet does it no justice.
All looks so clean and crisp and serene! I need to check out IKEA for islands.
Brenda
Wow! That's a big transformation! Love it. I do love IKEA.

Great remodel! I love it. May I ask where you got your stools for the island?
The stools were from a local store (which I don't remember). The original color was dark brown, so I sanded and painted them, and changed the seat cover (I love stripes!). They are super comfortable and have been with us for more than 5 years.
What a lovely remodel! Still loving the "seashell door";) Just curious...how long did the project take?
Your kitchen looks great!! Love your shaker-style doors, and your wood floor is awesome :-)
I just took a look at your seashell door project -- what a great idea to re-purpose that great door :-)
Enjoy your new kitchen :-)

Lindsey, it's hard to pinpoint how long the kitchen remodel took since we did it in phases, with breaks in between. Although, the entire ceiling was torn up for new plumbing first which alone took about a month. After that I worked on removing those pinkish tiles..., for about three weeks! Installing the lighting (cans) was done on several weekends..., so all in all it took at least 4 months I'd say.
Let me know if you need seascape art for your new room!! It is a beautiful transformation!

B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!! I love it!! Really you are magazine ready!! :) MBM
I love it! I want a new kitchen so badly...at the moment, am trying to be grateful for what I do have in life...you know? I live an atlantic beachlife and i love it! so i'm happy.
(but I do get bouts of serious kitchen envy, i won't deny it)
Hi Maya! I've been spending this rainy & cold Saturday afternoon going through your blog and I just saw this post! I love your kitchen re-do. It's exactly the type of kitchen I would have if I got a "do over". Everything you chose compliments each other so nicely. Great job!
Looks amazing. Great Job!
