Painted Quahog Shell with Inspirational Quote

Painted Shell
Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to meet it.

I've started collecting sea related sayings and quotes and was absolutely thrilled when I found this beautifully painted Quahog shell with an inspirational saying at Content in a Cottage.

Quahog shells are local around here in the North East and are being washed ashore in masses. My Orange Room was inspired by one. Their flat shape and large size make them a perfect canvas! I just painted a couple of them (nothing like this though) that I will post later. They're also the chief ingredient in chowder, and the Quahog shell is the official shellfish of my tiny state, Rhode Island!

Wouldn't it be fun to paint a bunch of them....and then scatter them along the shore for other shellers to find?

Ooooooh. Chowder. You live in SUCH a beautiful corner of the world, Maya!

I have a ton (well, close to a ton) of these shells! This one is wonderful and I can't wait to see yours. I just may have to give this a whirl, but I'm not nearly as talented as this artist.

I know I have lots of oddities around here (including myself), so I'll have to pull out the camera and take some pics.

Ok Maya, I'm "supposed" to be resting today, and then you post about a beautifully painted shell (my weakness) AND you link to your gorgeous home?! How can a girl get any rest...now I have to peruse the pictures and drool over your home and that view!

Your house is just stunning! Happy Sunday!

That's a lovely quote. I had never heard it before. Plus it gave me an excuse to look around your home and I was wondering if you ever found a use other than looking great for those smashing old oars.
I once used a pair of oars for curtain poles, mind they weren't as nice as your ones.
Also out of interest does that mini step machine really work, was thinking of getting one.
much love

beautiful idea, to paint on a sea shell... It would be fun and I am very eager to do it.

I have often painted on shells; I live near the coast of Maine where the shells are pretty gigantic in size. I paint pictures of the houses people live in on the shelss for little house warming gifts--I only have mine now to take a picture of, but I'll try to send it to you. Love the ocean, the shells and everything beachy. Thanks for the lovely blog.
