Barnacle Encrusted Bottles

Hawaii Style Home
This modern Hawaiian Home surprised me with an unexpected coastal curiosity -on the table.

Barnacle Encrusted Bottles
Barnacle encrusted bottles. Barnacles are small shellfish that attach themselves to any surface they can find, and I would love to come across bottles like these!

Barnacle Vases
An artistic interpretation of the work's of barnacles. Lovely vases, but I do prefer the real thing.

What is it about things encrusted with barnacles that is so fascinating? I've never found a bottle, but I have pieces of wood and shells that I do love. When I make my shell angels, I always do some with barnacle-encrusted shells and they turn out to be my personal favorites. I would love one of these bottles with the real thing!

My husband works on a fishing vessel in the Bering Sea. I'm going to tell him to keep an eye out for these! He's already brought home fishing floats (glass & cork), an OLD oar that had been washed up on a beach and many other treasures.

I've seen plenty of barnacles in my life, but mostly on pier pilings and the bottom side of boats. These bottles are really cool looking!

I love that watercolor painting! I need to go look at more of their artwork!

How rare it is to find a WHOLE glass bottle in the saltwater. These are fabulous!

At one point or another, the waves usually bang bottles into rocks and they break, creating sea glass. I wonder if maybe someone placed these bottles into a somewhat protected area, or inside something like a crab trap, so they are exposed to the sea life and barnacles, but they weren't likely to be broken.

I LOVE the barnacle bottles too! You live near the sea, right? Can't you just stick a couple of bottles in, and let them decorate themselves?

Also, your kitchen makeover sounds fab! I browsed a bit back in time on your site to see if I had somehow missed it. Did you post it? If you haven't, I really hope you will, you got me really curious ;)

if you stick the bottles in to gather the barnacles, how do you keep the decaying odor away?
