The Aegean Sea

Santorini Poster

The Aegean Sea, an arm of the Mediterranean Sea, located between the mainlands of Greece and Turkey...

Santorini in the Aegean Sea Map... with a multitude of islands, among them beautiful and popular Santorini.

Santorini is a volcano island that three and a half thousand years ago erupted, its heart sinking beneath the sea and leaving a crater (caldera) 6 miles in diameter. Ever since, the island’s history has been linked to the fabled city of Atlantis.

The highest point of the island is in the artist village of Oia which provides breathtaking views over the volcanic Santorini landscape and the blue Aegean sea.

To get to Oia you can take a Cable Car from the port of Gialos; or you can choose a more traditional way, a donkey ride.

I'm visiting via PvE- what a fabulous blog you have here. Being a Maine gal-I do appreciate and love everything nautical, beachy and love all of the treasures of the sea. I recently returned from a sea-glass mission in Maryland. I came home with pounds of wonderful glass and other treasures. Now I need to go back and read more of your wonderful posts.

Hi Maya
As you know I left my heart and found my soul in Santorini [or something to that effect].

It is without a doubt one of the true natural wonders of the world. So inspiring and life changing.. which is a tall order, but I think Santorini is up to the task.

Gorgeous photos... making me wish to be back there. Have a wonderful weekend. xx Julie

Just signed up to your blog the other day -- atmospheric theme with entries to match; nice. And this particular post caught my eye, being a major Santorini fan.
Your photos here capture the island's stunning geography and aesthetic equally well.
