Inspired by Art

I love the idea of hanging a large painting centrally on the wall and then creating a color scheme around it, and I found some great inspiration rooms...

... a vibrant ocean painting is the focal point of this dining area, and colors are repeated with the flower arrangement and dishware...

... an abstract painting of ocean and sky celebrates the cheerful color yellow, darker hues appear on the bed spread...

... a fabulous threesome here, with pillows picking up the calming shades of the greenish blue...

... just like the art piece on the wall, the living room is modern, kept in neutrals and feels a bit bare...

... a powder room as fresh and inviting as the painting on the wall...

... and another abstraction of the sea (I think)... And did you notice that all the rooms except for the powder room use white or creme as the wall color? Simple, straightforward, I love it. See what others are hooked on over at Julia's Hooked on Fridays, and for more great color inspiration and know how, check out Maria Killam's fabulous blog Colour me Happy.

Great pics! I love the artworks and the rooms are divine. I really like the bedroom with all the windows - but only in the daytime.

I love the shiny blue vase and the blue painting near it; I love the powder room painting...those kinds of paintings always make me happy.

Cathy Carey of San Diego is one you may like... she has gorgeous works that would be good to build rooms around...

I love your post today. And no, I actually hadn't noticed that all except the powder room had cream or white walls. Interesting. The only walls in my house that are white are only temporarily white - they've been primed and are ready to be painted - TOMORROW! I love the three paintings up high in the one room, and the first one, and the powder room. The one that you described as a bit bare seemed a tad depressing to me - even though the room was artfully done.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Love the images you posted. Especially fond of the room with the yellow art & the great room with the stone fireplace. The art filling the space below the upper windows is gorgeous. All the rooms are very tranquil...now I want to go to the beach!

Thanks for stopping bye my blog today & for leaving a comment. Your right, papering & then having to paint is a lot of work! I'm a glutton for punishment, I'm afraid. Have a great wkend!

All the pieces of artwork in the pictures you posted are really nice. My favourite is the grouping of the three greeny blue paintings in the picture of the family room.

You should check out the slide show on Patricia Gray's blog with pictures of rooms with large pieces of abstract art:

Hi Maya! My house could be in your blog this week! We've got a contemporary house with white walls and brightly colored art! I'm glad to see that there are others out there going with the neutral to no color on the walls. I don't know if Maria would approve though. I absolutely LOVE her blog!
