Blue Decorating with Paint

If you love the sea you might want a blue decorating theme at least in one room, right?

This eclectic living room demonstrates that blue decorating with paint doesn't necessarily mean blue walls. The walls were left white and trim, door and even the floor were painted blue instead...

...and deep navy blue brings a dramatic yet calming and cozy feel to this dining room space...

...the blue decorating theme also made it onto the set of sex in the city (movie) and Carrie's bedroom was redone and painted in a fresh ocean blue, making it look modern and sophisticated...

...then a casual setup against a blue wall that is painted in two rather unmatchy shades of blue, creating a horizon line..., I see ocean and sky but that's of course my interpretation...

...and a blue wall with an interesting grid pattern that lends itself to creative wall decor arrangements, great idea, ...

...and lastly my (cozy) master bedroom where the blue decorating theme was inspired by the ocean painting you see. The dark gray blue also reflects the color of the ocean outside on a cloudy day and together with the dark old wood floor it feels very nautical to me, a little bit like going into a ship cabin..., and as always, click on the images to go to the source.

My MBR is also a darkish gray blue...the paint chip was more gray, and the actual color turned out to be be (much!) more blue. So we're learning to embrace it ('cause I don't want to have to paint again!) These photos make me feel better about the color. :-)

Great shots. For a dark but really nice nautical blue, I suggest Newburyport Blue from Benjamin Moore. My neighbor used it on the trim in her kitchen, and I used it on a small armoire in our bathroom.

I experienced that myself how a color can be and/or feel stronger (and more saturated) once it's all around you.

Thanks for the tip. This gives me an idea for a post about painted furniture pieces nautical style. Do I find your small armoire on your blog?

What a nice blog! I love all things "coastal" and beachy, so these rooms really appeal to me. I've been trying to talk my husband into a blue bedroom.

That blue painted floor is stunning! -Julia
